Work started on our house this week, once the water and electricity had been connected.
Both bathrooms have been completely gutted and the builders have started stripping the plaster from the 500 year old walls in the kitchen/family room to reveal the original stone work, which we have asked to be cleaned up and exposed as a feature in the room. The 'grotto' has also been cleared out, ready for renovation at a later date.

Week 27 March 2006

Works on the house have really started to take off now, the builders have knocked down a wall in bathroom two and built a new wall to extend it.

The electrician has also started to completely rewire the whole house, our gas has now been connected and work on installing the central heating system is well underway.

Week 17th April 2006

It has been decided that we will have two bedrooms with on- suite bathrooms instead of three bedrooms. Bedroom one with the very high ceiling also has a mezzanine level which will be turned into another sleeping area once the stairs and banisters are in place.

The kitchen has been moved from the large family room, to the front of the house which was the dinning room.

This will leave us with a very large family room.

Renovations update 3rd May 2005

During our recent trip to Calitri to check out the renovations, we found to our delight that work is well underway and on target to be completed by the end of September.

On meeting with Emma from Porta Doriente and Nicola the builder we were able to choose floor and wall tiles, paint for inside and outside the house and also a stair case to join bedroom one with the mezzanine level. It has also been decided that in bedroom one we would have lights in the floor of the mezzanine level that shine upwards, to show off the dome ceiling.

Our next visit in August will be to choose furniture.

August 2006

Just returned from a trip out to Calitri. The house is looking good and should be finished mid October.

As the house is rather large it was decided to split the house into two parts, so that smaller parties can rent one side or the other of the house and larger parties could rent the whole house. The central heating has been designed so that only the part of the house that is occupied has the heating switched on.

We have chosen the light and bathroom fittings, so the only thing left now is to buy the furniture.

24th September 2006

Recently received some new photo's of the house which shows how close our house is to being finished. With the walls plastered and painted the original exposed rocks (approximately 500 years old) really stand out, we are really pleased with the look that we have achieved.
